A Liberteño in Chocó

Leer en español

In August of 2014, a representative from the community council of Libertad, Sucre, Colombia had the opportunity to go to the state of Chocó.  We learned many things about life in Chocó- we saw dredges and the difference between the contaminated water and the pure water from the streams; we saw different techniques of cultivating and tasted many new fruits; we saw people doing artisan mining, squeezing the water from sugar cane, and dancing traditional dances; we heard about daily life and the challenges of the violence; and we met many kind and impressive people. Above all, we learned how amazing it is to link two different communities and form friendships, to learn from one another, and the find the way to maintain the relationship and support one another.  What a beautiful thing.
